Tao of Programming

Muchacha got the email from Janet during our Ethics class today.
Janet gave us alot of information for our system since she had already worked on L&D system deployment. However, our project is more likely to be affected by her replacement than her departure (in the case that the new L&D Manager wants to change requirements again).

Thankfully, Janet was very professional and the functional requirements she gave us were for a system that follows industry standards and WDA guidelines. I ain't changing nothin for no one at this stage anyway.

Development updates
1) Approval routing system - 完全
2) Course / Class Management system - 完全
3) Training Provider Management system - 完全
4) Misc. others systems (login, navigation, access level manager) - 完全

Basically, our phase 1 prototype is working. Of course I'll need to spend time on beautifying the U.I. and we still have our AI virtual agent help system to implement...

I'm convinced there's only one way to complete an Enterprise system with a small team within the time span of one semester; that is to master the Tao of Programming. We've certainly mastered lesson 6.4 in our company, which explains why I'm always stoned in the daytime.

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children I'd better get my bluetooth adaptor rigged to my laptop so that I can load the "victory fanfare" theme as my v3's ringtone. It'll be just like in the movie! WOOT!

uh-oh ..

Janet is leaving
Yes, this is sad sad news... i just received an email from Janet saying tt she is leaving the company. Janet, for all who have just started reading, is the Learning & Development Manager.. yep, our main liason with Estee Lauder. The good thing is that she will follow through the project . Sad but true.. she is leaving on the 21st of Oct....

UNSTOPPABLE! DOMINATING!!!

It's official. DotA (Defenders of the Ancients) has landed in the office! Our office network is rigged and ready to PWN!

There's rarely a dull moment working in our office It's like driving a flaming ambulance down the highway. Now with DotA, it's going to be a like a flaming abmbulance being chased by NINJAs! ...who are also on fire!

NINJA!

Of course, we try to DotA only after 7pm, Mon-Fridays. "Try" being the operative word here.

Meanwhile, in other news:

Had a client meeting today (Sunday). That sort of says something about the stream of jobs piling in.
Max has also requested that we deliver the sales system to him ASAP. I have to finish the art gallery website by tomorrow. Dance Studio wants namecards and T-shirts. 2000 plastic bags to print for the restaurant.

What does all of this translate into? $$$ and KUSHINBO!

I'd better reserve some time to work on my SECRET PROJECT, the deadline for that one is drawing really close and I haven't started yet.

Meanwhile, in project related news:

Jocelyn and I actually made use of the Logical + Development view from AA class to breakdown our system into modules after getting the new requirements from Estee Lauder. AMAZING! SOMETHING WE LEARNT FROM SCHOOL IS USEFUL!!!
I'll be updating and uploading the new architecture soon. Maybe we'll be a case-study for ACDM (Architecture Centric Design Method).

The prototype which consists of the first 3 modules (Application System, Course Manager and Trainer Manager) should be ready by end of this week. This doesn't budget for time needed to "beautify" the U.I. which according to Estee Lauder is VERY important.
I'll need to get working on that by this week because we've got to deliver to EL week after.

PS: I think Muchacha might be a little miffed because I've was MIA last Thursday and Friday (client work as usual).
I'm sorry, ok kiddo? I'll buy you an omu-rice. :-P

busy as a beeeeeee...........

i want to declare... i am so so so tired and so so so busy!!! that is why i have not got time to blog for the whole of last week!! it was ethics presentation last week.. it was like our final presentation at week 3.. i cannot believe it! and i am still doing my ethics report.. sigh.. anyway.. it was a really busy week this 2 weeks becoz me and leonard have tonnes of deadlines.. but i am stil glad we got some things done... look below:

Meeting with Estee Lauder.
This happened last friday.. boy, it was a super long meeting 7 hrs looong.. i can be a pro requirements engineer.. haha.. we sat there in their office from 9.30 am till 4.30 pm.. Leonard spent $14 on carpark! We had the HR director, Leo, the new L & D manager Janet and Jasmine the Regional IS manger in the meeting. It was so funny that the IS manger thought that I was Leo's Personal Assitant as she remembered me from one of the company's functions we had while i was having my internship there.

We spent an hour or so explaining the technical aspects to Jasmine. Sorting out some cost and integration issues. We also touch on how it will affect the IS department. We would be expecting Henry, their Senior IS Exec assist us in the integration process.

We also went thru the aspects of the project with Leo and Janet..and Leo had a lunch appt, she left, leaving Janet with us. She got us loads of useful stuff and the knowledge transfer was really cool. Learnt so much more from her about Learning needs analysis and human capital develpoment process.. it was tedious but it was a eye opener!

Tim sum was on the menu for lunch at 4 stars. It was cool time eating away. Had lunch with the entire HR Department. All my old collegues.. Missed them so much. There was Roselin, Jane, May, Janet and Josephine who seldom go out for lunch. It was a blast. Had so much fun catching up.

And there we where agin back at the office, continuing our reqirments gathering. Leonard was struggling while i went on and on asking Janet qns for requirements gathering to formulate my business logic. It went on and on till Leo return from her long lunch and realised we were still there... it was a good time asking but it was painful on the pocket.. when Leonard had to pay the parking fees..

Our work day
Today me and Leonard spent the entire day formulating out modules and business logic,, so tiring.. and i realise we need a organiser.. haha.. we were terribly messy in the meeting room. All our notes from friday were lying all ard as we flip thru them to look for the stuff we need.. haha...
but we got the stuff done and went thru with derek the COURSE MASTER Module and with Sean, the ENROLMENT MODULE.
And leonard taught me how to do some basic stuff with Flash today.. haha.. he is a good teacher.. really step by step .. it was fun, i learn new thing every day.. really thank god for friends, my family and even in the midst of all the busy-ness.. i thank god that i am busy because he blessed me with the ability to handle it..:) okay for now.. back to the books!!

I always would remember that I am so blessed!!

Wise Programmer say: "Time to get a VPS"

Our server's timing is impeccable. It has decided to crash just as I completed (and was about to upload) the latest beta version of our image gallery component.

We've been considering getting our own Virtual Private Server (VPS) for TYLER Projects as we're going to launch quite a number of new sites this month. Also quite essential if we're going to be hosting part of the LDMS database on our server.

I'm going to authorise the expenditure for the VPS first thing in the morning.

Of Magic Quadrants and a Magical Girl

For some inexplicable reason, Muchacha was extememly amused by Professor Venky's mention of Gartner's magic quadrants in today's blueprint class. I won't go into details about what she did after that, but being prone to bouts of insanity myself, it was amusing to see her obsessing over "magic" quadrants for the rest of the class.

I've put a new song on my playlist for a magical girl obsessing over magic quadrants. If you find their sound a little unconvential...well...Guitar Vader IS a Japanese band.

After listening to Muchacha's songs, I decided to find out more about Corrinne May who is a Singaporean singer/song-writer who's quite hot right now. How's this for a revelation? I went out with her and a bunch of friends on New Year's Eve Y2K and again on another occassion.

Kinda inspiring knowing that your former schoolmate is now a superstar. Heh, I'd better find more time to practice in between studying and work! :-P

Muchacha will be away for camp tmr, that should give me some time to prepare to repel the Winnie the Pooh invasion of our desk. I want a nice stylo desk and I intend to stand my ground. Hur, hur.
We shall see how this chapter unfolds on Monday. -_-"

The office space is pretty cool. We have 3 tables to work on. Got to meet Ronnie and Sean today. Sean looks really different today with the long shirt and formal attire and all. Haha.. Ronnie is pretty cook because he is also a MAC user!! haha.. can get help from him now!

We went to get the fridge from Liang court yesterday.. Finally.. COLD Dr Pepper!
Will take guys guys a tour ard the office soon as soon as the camera's batt is bought. :)

We did not get to meet Prof Pang this week as he had some meeting. Would not be able to meet him tml as I will be Facilitating a secondary school camp at Deyi Secondary. But will be working on the Project with Leonard on either Monday or Tuesday. Most Likely Monday..:)
