BLEH 2!

It's official. I'm out of shape.

Working in the office till 11pm+, eating out all the time and skipping my nightly workouts have finally taken their toll. You'd think I'd at least take the trouble to and tone-up for the TV documentary they just shot about our company, but I didn't. I hardly noticed it myself, but Jon and my mom pointed it out, so it must be true.

Ironically, I just wrote a paper and a presentation on work-life balance practices last summer (I wonder if anyone read it, it's still on our company "intranet"). I recommended 30 mins to an hour of gym before lunch and 1-2 days working from home (presuming you can work out more at home or use the time to go work out). Seems like a good time for me to put my own policies into practice.

I've avoided buying an mp3 player for the longest time but I'm seriously considering one now. Why? Just so I listen to my Burnout 3 soundtrack while I'm doing a burnout(on the treadmill not the road, I've stopped driving for quite some time)!

Meanwhile...

Derek asked us to all take this Which Tarot Card Are You? personality quiz. Here's what I got for my result:
The Hermit Card
You are the Hermit card.
The Hermit has chosen a solitary spiritual path. He shines light on his inner self and, by this means, gains wisdom. The Hermit's home is the natural world and it is by being in tune with that world that he learns the laws of nature and learn how they operate within himself. His path is a lonely one as he lives in silence and has for companionship only his own internal rhythms. But those crossing his path are touched by his light and wisdom. Though often alone, he manages nevertheless to instruct those who meet him and guides those who chose to follow him on a path towards enlightenment.

Guys in the office thought it was a pretty accurate reading. I just thought, "ok, whatever".

Perhaps Muchacha will post her result here....in one of the 6 consecutive posts she promised to make to uphold the image that is a shared project blog and not simply "Leonard's Blog". :-P

新年 おめでとう ございます!!!

A big belated Happy 2006 to everyone!

Hope you had an interesting NYE celebration. We were at Derek's place watching fireworks. It's really cool because we could see the fireworks at Mount Faber, Sentosa and HarbourFront all at the same time from his apparentment. We also DotA-ed through the countdown from 2005 to 2006. How cool is that?!

Project Related News:
I'll be posting a few technical demos of parts of our system (look under technical demos in the right menu bar):

Mass Add to Course
This would seem like an easy thing to implement to most programmers. BUT if you examine the thing carefully, you'll realise there's a WHOLE load of alternate flows and exceptions to consider (including but not limited to CTRL-clicking and Shift-clicking). I haven't quite fixed all the bugs but we're just going to throw it in first.

Main Menu Bar
I think this has to take the cake for most cheap trills in a single navigation menu I've ever created. It was strongly inspired by the menu bar BMW used in it's promotional site for the new V3 but I expanded on the functionality even more and made it dynamic (to read the menu XML output).
How do I know theirs isn't dynamic? because apparently when you mask a dynamic text field the changes will not be reflected when you change the contents. Yet another quirk in Flash.

Video Help System
I had some fun filming Muchacha for the interactive video help system on Tuesday. She looks really cute with the tie on though she doesn't seem to like wearing it very much. But in all honesty she was much more presentable and formal with the tie on. I'll post the demo of the help system over the weekend.

It's time for us to go back to Estee Lauder and grab some more free juice!

In other news: The latest craze at our office is
"魁!! クロマティ高校!" (Charge! Cromartie High School!)
Charge!! Cromartie High
Derek brought the DVD to the office and it's been a hit with everyone! I've even set the theme song as my ring tone! Any anime about a school with deliquent students including a robot, a gorilla, aliens and Freddy Mercury is well worth watching! Find out more about the show here!
