BLEH!
We lost. We got the merit award which includes a very nice paper weight and some certificates. Not much of a compensation considering it cost about $800+ to produce our entry.
Here are the winners. View them
here.
At least I don't have to host our entry on our own server for the next 3 months. Check it out
here.
I met some of the SCS people at the reception. I was surprised they recognised me. "Hey weren't you one of the guys that came for the interview the other day? You're a finalist?" Given that SCS was judging the competition. I'm not to optimistic about my chances of winning the IT Youth Leader Award either.
While I'm rather disappointed with the outcome, I will refrain from making any comments because my opinion is biased. At least the food at the reception buffet was good. Celine also encouraged all of us to accept the loss graciously.

Stupid IDA Competition.

Working 24/7 isn't enough for me to clear my work.
People say drinking doesn't help to solve your problems and just creates more.
Bullshit. There's nothing like a couple of shots of Jose Cuervo Gold to prevent my mind from trying to rationalise why I'm working so damn hard.
I'm running low on Tequila and I need a vacation.

I think Ko Samat or Bintan would be good choice for a short trip in December, though I suspect my vaction partner feels otherwise (i.e. good shopping is her prequisite for our choosen holiday destitation).
I was at the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) Headquarters yesterday for the IT Youth leader award interview.
I went in T-shirt (other award nominees were dressed fomally), drenched from the rain, wearing my lucky earrings and I told a peanut joke to the 20+ interviewers from comprising of various IT industry leaders and university professors.
Interviewer: "...but Electronic Arts will pay you peanuts for your game!"
Me: "Well, peanuts can be quite big in Singapore."For those of you who aren't from Singapore you can read more about the origin of the peanut jokes

Meanwhile, in Project related news:We have to delay the delivery of the LDMS system. AA project 3 is solely to blame.
招き猫!!!
Shawn is back from Japan and he bought these 招き猫
"Maneki Neko" (literally "beckoning cat") for the office.

We just call them 发财猫
"fa chai mao" in our office since we don't really speak Japanese in the office.
Why have 2 cats? Well apparently, the left paw is supposed to attract more customers while the right paw will bring money and good fortune. I joked that they could have just made one cat with both paws raised.
Meanwhile in project related news: I discussed this with Muchacha a while ago and again on Thursday. I don't care about what the textbook has to say about marketing. I think the best way to market the HR LDMS system is to cut a deal with Janet for a portion of the profits from the sale of the system and have her help us market the system to her industry contacts.
Afterall, she has all the industry contacts and she gave us the info we needed to create the system in the first place. Muchacha says she's afraid to deal with Janet but that's just because Janet is very professional and she's more used to dealing with people on an informal basis.
Sounds like a job for the Solo-Operator. :-P
Now the only question is to we write this in our report as the marketing/sales strategy or the usual textbook crap?
